Counseling Style
I primarily operate from a person-centered theoretical orientation. Consequently, I believe that the quality of the therapeutic relationship between the counselor and client is a critical element of the counseling experience. I strive to create a safe and productive counseling environment for my clients by practicing empathy and unconditional positive regard. I recognize that clients are the experts of their lived experiences, and I will work collaboratively with clients as they strive to achieve their goals. I value making the therapeutic environment a comfortable space by offering clients a variety of fidgets and exploring issues of identity, privilege and oppression. I am excited to work with clients from a variety of backgrounds, and I am particularly passionate about supporting members of the LGBTQ+ community. Although person-centered theory provides the foundation of my counseling approach, I also draw from aspects of dialectical behavior therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy and Adlerian therapy.
Personal
One of my favorite methods of self-care is staying active, and I particularly enjoy running long distances, taking long walks, hiking, lifting weights, Pilates and yoga. I enjoy playing video games in my spare time and adding to my retro video game collection. I am an artist and love to paint and crochet. Cooking is a passion of mine, and I love to try new recipes and share food with loved ones. When I have the chance to read for pleasure rather than for academics, I enjoy getting lost in a good mystery novel. I adore spoiling my partner and I’s two cats.
