Let’s Talk

Overview
Let’s Talk is a support program that connects students with experienced clinicians in a casual, drop-in setting. You can visit for a variety of reasons. A UCC clinician will listen to your concerns and help you find solutions. It is also a great way to see what speaking with our staff is like.
All consultations are confidential. Meetings are held on a first-come, first-served basis.

Frequently Asked Questions:
Let’s Talk is an outreach program that provides informal walk-in consultations with UCC clinicians at sites located outside of the UCC’s designated office space. The intent of this program is to provide an accessible, positive, informal contact with a clinician who can address immediate student concerns and minimize barriers to accessing formal mental health services. There are Let’s Talk hours available throughout the month. Take a look at our schedule to see where we will be next!
Let’s Talk visits are typically 20-25 minutes, and are offered on a first-come, first-served basis. During your session, the counselor will listen closely to your concerns and provide support, perspective, information, and suggestions for resources.
Students who access counseling through the UCC schedule an appointment with a clinician to complete an initial visit and sometimes participate in ongoing counseling through scheduled appointments for individual or group therapy.
In contrast, Let’s Talk is not formal counseling and is not intended to be a substitute for mental health treatment. Rather, it is a convenient drop-in service where students can have an informal consultation with a UCC clinician.
If your next appointment is not soon enough, it’s best to contact the UCC (336.758.5273) to see if your clinician has availability sooner.
Although the UCC clinician’s that facilitate Let’s Talk are professionals, Let’s Talk is not a substitute for psychotherapy or formal counseling and does not constitute mental health treatment. Let’s Talk clinicians provide informal consultations to help students with specific problems and to introduce them to what it’s like to speak with a trained mental health professional. Your Let’s Talk counselor can help you determine whether formal counseling at the UCC would be useful for you and, in some cases, assist you in scheduling an appointment.

The Wake Forest University Counseling Center is deeply indebted to the clinicians at the Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) at Cornell University who pioneered and modeled “Let’s Talk,” made it such a successful service at Cornell, and shared program materials for integration at other institutions.
